HIP INJURY

A terrible fall on the floor may you cause extreme pain in the hips that gets worse even in a slight movement. Standing is difficult as your hips are swollen, and your back and knees ache. These are some of the symptoms of a hip injury.

The hips are very stable when healthy, and it takes a tremendous fall to hurt them. A hip injury involves the bones, ligaments, tendons or muscles in the hip area. Common injuries include strain, sprain, contusion and fracture.

Immediately seeing an orthopedic professional for treatment will prevent from further aggravating your situation. For hip fracture, treatment may include surgery. Sometimes, a hip joint replacement would be prescribed. The orthopedic practitioner will also recommend narcotic pain medications and physical therapy.

Hip pain is actually a common problem. If you haven’t had that fall, and yet you are experiencing hip pain, it would be difficult to guess of its cause. There are many causes of hip pain that makes it confusing. It is sometimes caused by certain diseases or conditions of the other parts of the body. Some common causes for hip pains include muscle strains, hip fracture, stress fracture, arthritis, trochanteric bursitis (inflammation of the outside of the hip joint) and tendonitis.

When you are not sure of the cause of the symptoms, you should immediately see an orthopedic professional for proper diagnosis and medical treatment. Some signs that should alarm you includes the inability to walk well, hip pain occurring at night or while resting, swelling of the hip or the thigh area and signs of an infection.

The treatment will depend on the diagnosis. Usual treatment, however, would include taking anti-inflammatory medication, doing stretching exercises and undergoing physical therapy. Physical therapy is very important aspect of the treatment as it helps patient regain mobility and increase strength.
