What causes leg pain?

by

A leg is a columnar shaped structure that is important for weight bearing and locomotive tasks. The human leg is the whole lower limb of the human body. It includes the foot, thigh and the hip. It extends between the knee and the ankle. Legs are used for activities such as jumping, walking, standing or kicking.
Trauma is the major cause of leg pain. Pain from back injuries can inflame the sciatic nerve hence causing sciatica. This pain will radiate down to the leg following the path of the sciatic nerves.

Swelling and inflammation can cause pains. These pains are caused by sprains and strains whereby the ligament fibers are stretched and partly or totally torn. Tibial stress syndrome, this is a condition where shin splints can be thought to be an overuse injury to the tibia or shinbone and can cause so much pain. Tibial stress syndrome is commonly caused by running, jumping and dancing.

Blood, like any fluid cannot be compressed therefore in case of injuries to the leg, the leg will start swelling causing so much pain to the leg. Blood supply cut off due to obstruction of arteries supplying blood to the leg through blood clot can cause a great deal of pain to the leg. Veins can also be affected causing leg pain. Deep venous thrombosis, a blood clot that occurs in a deep vein, causes a damming effect whereby blood is trapped behind the blockage. This causes redness, warmth and pain in the affected area.

Both legs can be affected through suffering of chronic diseases like diabetes, alcoholism, and cancer and vitamin deficit which will result in nerve pain. Guillain-Barré syndrome and multiple sclerosis are some if the illnesses that cause leg weakness and result with complaints of leg pain.

Skin inflammation can also cause leg pain. This condition is made worse if there are underlying illnesses like diabetes or peripheral artery disease that avert ample healing. Skin inflammation may be as a result of infection caused by streptococcus or staphylococcus bacteria.
