Frozen Shoulder Requires Orthopedic Attention

by

The top of the arm is where the shoulder joint begins. The shoulder is a simplistically designed ball and socket shaped joint. This arrangement is surrounded by a number of muscles and tendons and provides stability and a wide range of motion for the shoulder. In fact, the shoulder itself is the most flexible and has the widest range of motion in the human body.

Should a person suffer from Frozen Shoulder then they have usually affected the capsule that the joint sits in. This is where it will become inflamed and it will as a result contract. This will develop scar tissue as a result of the inflammation and subsequent contraction. What happens when this occurs is the shoulder will become very painful and this is particularly so when extensive movement of the shoulder is required for certain tasks. As a result the range that the arm is able to move from the shoulder is severely hampered and can be a very painful situation for the patient.

Frustrating to this problem is that the cause of frozen shoulder is not actually known. Some believe that there is an age factor at play here however this is not always the case. Should you be immobilized due to medical reasons then some will suffer from frozen shoulder as well but the overall feeling is that thereis no known common cause to the prevalence of frozen shoulder. What can be agreed upon, however, is that early orthopedic intervention will allow the patient to have more pain relief and pain management developed as well as a treatment and recovery program put in place. If you suffer from what you think may be frozen shoulder then you should seek the advice from your orthopedic specialist without delay.
