Common Shoulder Complaints And Injuries

by

Shoulder pain is not an uncommon complaint amongst the population. There are many causes to shoulder pain and there are ways that this can be remedied. If you are seeking treatment for a shoulder injury or complaint then it is important to see an orthopedic doctor that specializes in the recovery and care of shoulder damage and pain.

Some of the more common shoulder ailments that should result in the sufferer seeking professional orthopedic assistance are listed below:

Bursitis or Rotator Cuff Tendonitis:
This is one of the most common problems that orthopedic doctors see in a sufferer. A rotator cuff tear generally occurs when the tendons of the rotator cuff separate from the bone.

Frozen Shoulder:
This is also known as Adhesive capulitis. This is also a fairly common condition that soon makes the joint very stiff. Many times physical therapy and stretching can help with this complaint, but seeing an orthopedic doctor fro diagnosis is first recommended in order to diagnose that specific problem.

Calcific Tendonitis:
This is a problem where there is evidence of calcium deposits within a tendon. It occurs mostly around the rotator cuff tendons in the shoulder. The symptoms will determine what action must be taken to relieve this complaint.

Shoulder Instability:
If you have ever had a dislocated shoulder you may be more prone to shoulder instability. However, some people who have never dislocated a joint can also develop this complaint.

Shoulder Dislocation:
As the name suggests this is where the scapula becomes disconnected from the top of the arm bone. This is an injury that occurs mostly from some sort of trauma.

Shoulder Separation:
This can also be known as AC separation. This is very different from a dislocation and occurs as a result of a disruption of the acromioclavicular joint.

Labral Tear and SLAP Lesion:
There are several versions of a labral tear and the SLAP lesion is just one of them. If the sufferer has fallen on to perhaps an outstretched hand, then this is an injury that may result.

Arthritis:
Although shoulder arthritis is less common than hip and knee arthritis, this is still a painful issue for sufferers.

Many of these shoulder complaints and injuries can result in problems that affect a persons everyday life. Not being able to carry objects or use their arm is one specific complaint as well as not being able to raise an arm. If you have shoulder pain that persists longer than a few days then you should seek orthopedic medical attention as soon as  possible. You should never commence any type of shoulder treatment without first consulting an orthopedic professional for a diagnosis and treatment plan.
