How can an arthroscope help?

by

The arthroscope can be of great help for patients with joint problems. Arthroscopy is a minimal invasive surgical procedure that is done to examine and repair the interior of a joint. The examination is done using an arthroscope to see the internal conditions while the surgeon does the repairs via a small incision. This is a considerable procedure for knee treatment.

The best part about the use of the arthroscope is the fact that there are no large cuts made on the patient’s skin. This means that the recovery after the procedure is faster. The procedure can therefore be performed on a day basis and the patient can embark on daily chores almost immediately.

In most cases, people with joint problems never get the desired assessment since the clinical examinations on the joints are superficial. The doctor can therefore not be able to assess the main cause of the problem. However, with the arthroscope, the doctor is able to look into the knee and determine the main cause of the problem. The arthroscope can therefore be used in the diagnostics of the joint’s interior to determine the main cause of the problem.

The arthroscope procedure is simple and takes a few minutes to administer. The first step is to administer the anesthetic on the target joint. The arthroscope is then introduced via the stab incision. Once inside, the arthroscope is connected to a fluid bag and a video camera. After the introduction of the sterile saline to expand the joint, the inside is displayed in color on a TV monitor. This enables the doctor to assess the causes of the problem and administer the right treatment. Added stab incisions are needed for other instruments.

The arthroscope can be used for various surgical procedures. The arthroscopy can carry out surgical procedures such as meniscentomy, joint debridement, loose bodies, Plicae, Ligament surgery, and synovectomy among others.
